Overview of the Gokyo Lake Trekking in Nepal

Gokyo Lakes are in total of six lakes situated at an altitude of 4700 - 5000 m of elevation. The lakes are the world’s highest freshwater lake system, which has also been designated as a Ramsar Site in 2007. The trek is 10 days long and will take you to one of the memorable treks of your life. You will be able to see 4 of the highest mountains in the world through Gokyo Ri and other mountains and peaks as well. On the way, you will also come across the longest glacier in the Himalayas, Ngozumpa Glacier.

You will be landing at the airport at the highest altitude, which is risky and thrilling. As you ascend towards Namche Bazaar, you will come across a lot of landmarks on the way, like the Hillary Suspension Bridge, Sagarmatha National Park, and many more.  After descending Khumjung, the route diverges into two paths, you will take the alternate way from the classical route that reaches to Dole. 

The traipse continues towards Machermo, finally reaching to Gokyo. There are four lakes in Gokyo. You can see the two lakes on the way to Gokyo; the remaining lakes are a bit on the far side. So, you can extend your stay, and it will be on the next day. You will also ascend Gokyo Ri (5,360 m) for a better view of the mountains. After your sojourn of 2 Days at Gokyo, you will descend back to Lukla, following the same way.

  • Extend another day and take the next flight to Lukla
