Detailed Itinerary
Kathmandu to KathmanduExpand all

Your escapade to Annapurna Circuit starts from Kathmandu. You will have your early morning breakfast at your hotel and drive towards Dharapani. The road to Dharapani is not in great condition so the road can be quite bumpy and dusty.

If you are travelling on a bus, you need to wake up early to catch a seat. The bus will drop you off at BhulBhule, then you will need to take a shared jeep to Dharapani or you can just add two days on your itinerary and start the trek from Bhulbhule to Dharapani through Jagat.

Alternatively, you can book a private jeep for a hassle-free drive to Dharapani. You will be picked up from your respective hotel and start your drive. After 8 to 9 hours of driving, you will reach Dharapani and call it a day.

You will begin your trek with an early morning breakfast from Dharapani. You will go through the forest of pine, oak, fir and maple trees, and walk alongside the Marsyangdi River. On a clear day, you can also get some views of the Himalayan Vistas like Lamjung Himal and Annapurna peaks. The trail gradually leads to Bagarchhap to a small settlement named Danagyu. Moving forward, you will come across Timang, Thanchok, Koto and finally to the beautiful village settlement Chame.

Chame is the administrative headquarters of Manang District situated at 2,610 m above the sea level. This picturesque village provides the breathtaking view of the mountain peaks like Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. The flow of the Marsyangdi River and the local culture and tradition of the local Manangi people makes the village more vibrant and beautiful.

After breakfast, today you will ascend forward to reach Pisang Village. The morning starts with the beautiful view of Lamjung Himal. You will move forward through the apple orchards, paddy fields and rhododendron forests. There are a few monasteries, prayer flags and mani walls on the way. You will cross the Suspension bridge of the Marshyangdi River and ascend the hill. The hill top provides you a marvelous view of mountainous terrain and a massive rock wall, namely Pangdi Dada.

You will cross the villages of Talekhu and Brathang. Brathang is said to be the settlement of Khampas (the Tibetan warriors). Moving forward through the fir and pine forest, you will reach Dhikur Pokhari. On a clear day, you will get to see the excellent view of Mt. Annapurna II, Pisang Peak, and Tilicho Peak. Walking further on the trail, you will reach Upper Pisang, a culturally enriched village providing the panoramic view of Pisang Peak and the Annapurna Range.

As you wake up, you will get the fantastic view of the Annapurna Ranges and Pisang Peak. You will have your early morning breakfast with the view. Today you will step into the alpine dry climate. You will be going through the upper trail to Manang to get the best views of the mountains like Lamjung Himal (6,983m/ 22,910 ft), Annapurna II (7,937m/ 26,040 ft), Annapurna IV (7,525m/ 24,688 ft), Gandarbha Chuli (6,250m/ 20,505 ft), Annapurna III (7555m/ 24,786 ft), Gangapurna (7,544m/ 24,750 ft), Glacier Dome (7,193m/ 23,599 ft), and Khangsar Kan.

On the way, you will visit the Barge Monastery, the largest monastery in the Manang District. You will also see many Buddhist prayer flags, mani walls on the way. After 7 to 8 hours of walking from the Upper Pisang with the mesmerizing view, you will reach Manang, the largest settlement in the Annapurna Circuit.

As you ascend to higher altitude, acclimatization is really necessary so that your body can adjust to the alpine climate. Altitude gain leads to dryer wind and lower oxygen level that might bring trouble in breathing. So, you will rest one more day exploring the beautiful village Manang.

In the morning, you will take a trip to Gangapurna Lake. Gangapurna Lake was formed by glaciers from Mt. Gangapurna, Annapurna IV, Khangsar Kang and Glacier Dom. The lake color changes according to the season. In spring and autumn, the color is pristine blue, during summer it’s white, and the lake is frozen in winter. If you want to explore more, you can ascend towards Kichu Tal (Ice Lake). The lake offers views of the Manaslu range, Annapurna, Gangapurna, and Tilicho.

Since you are on a higher altitude, it is better not to push hard on your body. So, you will be hiking for 4 to 5 hours to Ledar. Your trek to Ledar will begin late morning, taking sufficient time for resting and breakfast.  You will go through the stone walls and exit Manang. First, you will ascend and cross a stream to climb to Tenki Village, continuing the ascent to Jarshang Khola Valley. You will be passing through the juniper forest and the trail will lead you towards a small village named Gunsan, famous for flat mud roofs.

Soon the valley opens up and the views of the mountains get bigger and broader. Depending upon the season, you might get opportunities to view a lot of yak herding in the field. You will take a stop at Yak Kharka to enjoy watching the Yak grazing in vast fields. You will then walk further about an hour to reach Ledar. Overnight at Ledar.

Today again, you will be blessed with the view of mountains as soon as you open your eyes. Your trek today will also be a short hike to Thorong Phedi. It will take about 4 to 5 hours to reach Thorong Phedi depending on your physical condition. Arriving early will help you prepare better for the long day tomorrow.

You will continue gradually with the sidewalk and cross a footbridge, a short steep climb to the ridge for a short break at the tea shop. Another 45-minute walk through the technical landslides trail takes you to the Thorong Phedi.

On the eighth day of the Annapurna Circuit Trek, you will be finally crossing the highest point of the entire journey and also one of the longest passes of the Himalayas, Thorong La Pass (5416 m).  Today will be the longest, toughest and physically challenging day as you will be hiking straight for 9 hours.

You will be waking up very early in the morning and start your day. The weather is pretty unstable and windy during the afternoon, so you will start as early as possible. You will get to see the best sunrise view today while ascending Thorong La Pass.  With brief stops in between, you will reach the top of Thorong La Pass, which is the highest point of the trek. You can spend some time there celebrating your achievement by clicking some pictures and start descending the other way towards Muktinath. Make sure to use the crampons as the way down is steep, slippery and icy.

Muktinath is a sacred holy site for both Hindus and Buddhist followers. For Hindus, Muktinath is one of the 108 divya desams of Lord Vishnu, which is believed as a place of liberation. For Buddhists, Muktinath is one of their major pilgrimage sites. Lying at the foot of Thorong La Pass, Muktinath is a serene place for resting after the long day crossing Thorong La Pass.

After breakfast, you will leave Muktinath and start your drive to Tatopani via Jomsom. It will be a rough and exciting drive as you will be passing through the deepest gorges. Tatopani is at an altitude of 1200 m, so you will leave behind the alpine pastures and enter the lush green hilly region. It will take around 6 to 7 hours on a local bus and 4 to 5 hours on a shared jeep. So, you will be taking anyone of your wish.

After the rough drive, you will be reaching Tatopani, a natural hot spring. The hot spring’s water is believed to cure skin-related diseases, body aches and fatigue. So, enjoy your time at the Tatopani. Overnight at Tatopani.

After your breakfast at Tatopani, you will leave eastwards towards Ghorepani. You will pass through the beautiful villages like Ghara, Sikha and Phalate. Villages like Sikha and Chitre have been inhabited by the ethnic Thakali people. The trail takes you through the farmlands and lush green forest of rhododendron until you reach the beautiful village at the ridge top, Ghorepani.

A short early morning hike will take you to Poonhill. You can enjoy the surrounding views of Manaslu, Annapurna & Dhaulagiri, along with the sunrise. Poonhill is famous for the incredible views it offers. You will get the incredible sunrise from the mountains and the breathtaking view of more than 20 mountains. We descend through rhododendron forests, pass by spectacular waterfalls and reach Tadapani to spend the night.

Today is the last day on a trekking trail, as you will be returning to the developed area. The trek to Ghandruk (1,940m/ 6,364 ft) is around 4 - 5 hours walk through the dense rhododendron forest. Ghandruk is a cultural village, famed for cultural tourism. From Ghandruk you will take a jeep ride to the lakeside city of Pokhara. Pokhara is a mysterious and beautiful place with amazing landscapes. Finally, we will spend the night in the Pokhara hotel.

Today you will return to Kathmandu. Your drive starts early in the morning from Pokhara in a cozy tourist bus or a private jeep of your choice. While returning, you will get a chance to view the river on the left while the high hills on the right side.

In the evening, you will have a farewell dinner with our office team leader where you can share your experience about the Annapurna Circuit Trek. Finally, you will spend the night in Kathmandu.
