Detailed Itinerary
Kathmandu to KathmanduExpand all
The early morning flight from Kathmandu will take you to the most dangerous flight in the world. It is said so because the Tenzing Hillary Airport (Lukla Airport) has one of the shortest runways which is 527 m long and only 30 m wide. Hence, only professional pilots are allowed to run the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla due to technical difficulties.
Our team can arrange you a potter guide but if you want on your own you can hire a potter guide around Lukla. Lukla is a small village town that embarks on the start of your trek for the Everest Base Camp. Your journey today continues to Phakding where you can officially commemorate your journey after the Pasang Lhamu Gate. You will follow the wide sidewalk leading towards Phakding. You can find beautiful scenery, herds and head start on learning the local Sherpa Culture on the way. You can find many rock carvings around your way to EBC. It is said that the rocks are made sacred through the Tibetan writings and are considered as the memorials of a family member when they are passed away.
Since the hike is short and straightforward, you can complete your brisk trek in 3 to 4 hours before landing at Phakding. Overnight Stay at Phakding.

Today’s day will start after the hearty breakfast at Phakding before heading towards the Sherpa Capital, Namche Bazaar. The trail takes you around 5 to 6 hours of walk where you can find the lush green mountain vegetation on the way and sneak peek of some mountains along the way.
The trail to Namche Bazaar is mostly uphill with the beautiful Dudh Koshi River flowing aside. On the way to Namche, you require the permit of Sagarmatha National Park. Our guide will help you on the permit and entrance. On a clear day, you can also see the Thamserku Mountain rising above and a glimpse of Mt. Everest. There are many suspension bridges on the way, among which you need to cross the famous landmarks of the trail, Hillary Bridge with the height of 135 m and length of 60 meters.
There is a straight forest hike that takes around 2 to 3 hours to climb. After the challenging hike, you will reach Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) aka “The Gateway to Mt. Everest” at early evening. After you have settled down at your tea house, you can also visit the Khumjung monastery (3790 m) from where you can enjoy the view of the beautiful Namche bazaar. The Khumjung Monastery was built by Sir Edmund Hillary for over 1900 people living in that village.

This day you will be having your stop at Namche Bazaar as a process of acclimatization. While going on a trek to the highest altitude your body needs to be adapted to the new climate or new conditions to prevent altitude sickness or AMS. So, one more day is spent on Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and allowing your body to adjust to the thinner air before pushing towards higher altitudes.
Today you will be early morning sunrise hiking to the Hotel Everest View (3,880 m) for the best view of Everest (8,848.86 m), Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Nuptse (7,861 m) and other mountains on a clear day. What is altitude sickness and what can you do to avoid it?
Our Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary was created with the keen understanding of Altitude Sickness. While trekking, you will ascend from the lower altitude to higher altitude. The starting elevation of Everest Base Camp trek is 1,310 m and the maximum elevation is up to 5,555 m above the sea level. While ascending towards such a high altitude in a short period of time our body needs to adjust to that height. That’s why acclimatization is necessary while trekking to EBC. Otherwise, you can get Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) if it worsens you can result in High altitude cerebral edema (HACE). Altitude sickness is caused by ascending too rapidly, which doesn't allow the body enough time to adjust to reduced oxygen and changes in air pressure.
You cannot totally avoid altitude sickness but following are some of the ways to minimize it.
You should not rush. You must ascend slowly and steadily so that your body can slowly adjust to the high altitude.
You should hike as high as you can during the acclimatization rest and return to the lower altitude for sleep. Acclimatization not only helps to prevent altitude sickness but also aids the body in recovering exhausted muscles and adjusting to the shifting oxygen levels.
You shall intake sugar (chocolates with nuts, Choco bars, energy bars, proteins and drink enough warm water during your hike to avoid altitude sickness.
If you still have mild symptoms of altitude sickness you can try medications like acetazolamide or nifedipine to prevent altitude sickness and treat it.
What is the best season to go for Everest Base Camp Trekking in Nepal?
To be very honest, there is no specific time to enjoy mountains but if you are contemplating which season you want to go for trekking, we are here to assist you. Spring and Autumn is undoubtedly the most popular season for trekking. We recommend you for three passes trek on Autumn season as there is relatively less crowd and few people. So, you have all the scenery, views and mountains all by yourself
Everest Base Camp in Spring (March, April and May): During the Spring season, the trail is enhanced by the blooming rhododendrons, pleasant weather and open clear view of mountains. But the route is quite crowded as it is the peak season for expedition teams. Everest Base Camp in March, April and May is awashed with yellow tents and helicopters are constantly rummaging back and forth. It might get quite annoying but you can get the actual insight about what the base camp looks like during its peak season.
Everest Base Camp in Autumn (September, October and November): During Autumn season, the skies are clear, offering breathtaking mountain views and stable trekking conditions. Everest Base Camp in November is pleasant during the day, though it can get cold at night whereas Everest Base Camp in September and October is considered particularly best time for trekking as the monsoon season has just ended and the weather is dry and clear.
Everest Base Camp in Winter (December, January and February): During Winter Season, the trek is challenging due to extreme cold and harsh condition. Everest Base Camp in December is cold and there might be snowfall at night but the weather is clear during the day showing the best view of the mountains. This year at 2024, the weather was very suitable to trek to Everest Base Camp in December as well with bright clear sky and the best view of the mighty Everest. In January, we recommend you not to go for EBC Trek due to heavy snowfall and teahouses remaining closed at higher altitude. Moreover, the trails would be slippery and the conditions would be harsher. Everest Base Camp in February would also be quite suitable, even though there would be snowfall but the conditions are relatively less harsh for travel. But if you are okay with facing the extreme cold, you can go for the trek in winter as well.
Everest Base Camp in Summer (June, July and August): We do not suggest you for the trek in Summer or Monsoon Season. Because, during Summer and Monsoon, the weather is too wet, windy and unpredictable. You will get to see a better view of snowcapped mountains during winter. There is heavy rainfall in June and July making the trail slippery but if you are a keen botanist, the time is perfect for you. Everest Base Camp in August has relatively less rainfall and stable. So, it is also a good time for trekking in Nepal.
How is the weather condition of EBC trek?
At higher altitude, the weather condition constantly changes. The sky might be crystal clear and hot during the day whereas snowy and chilly during the night. The weather is unpredictable and keeps on changing second to second. So, whether you are travelling during, summer or winter, you must pack winter and summer essentials as well for the trek.
