Detailed Itinerary
Kathmandu to KathmanduExpand all

As the flight to Lukla only operates in the morning, so you will have to wake up early to catch the flight that will land at the airport in the highest altitude. The airport of Lukla has one of the shortest runways hence only professional pilots are allowed to run the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla due to technical difficulties, making it one of the dangerous flights of the world.

After 30 min of scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, you will be arriving at the Tenzing- Hillary Airport commencing your official start for the 15 days long trek. You will be hiking from Lukla to Phakding, which takes around 4 hours. Passing through mani walls, prayer wheels, herds and suspension bridges you will complete your active trek at Phakding and call it a day.

You will be having an early morning breakfast at Phakding to carry on today's trek to Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is also known as Sherpa Capital as it is the main trading center of Khumbu Region and has the largest Sherpa settlement in Upper Khumbu. You will be walking through the lush green vegetation on the bank of Dudh Koshi River, enjoying the local Sherpa people, their livelihood and some mountains on the way.
On the way, you will have to come across the famous landmarks of the trek like Hillary Suspension Bridge and Pasang Lhamu Gate indicating the official start of the trek. You will get the permit for Everest Base Camp via Gokyo and Cho La Pass Trek permit at Monjo and carry on our trek to Namche Bazaar.

After 5 to 6 hours of hiking, you will reach Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) aka “The Gateway to Mt. Everest” at early evening. You will check in at the tea house and feel free to explore the outstanding Namche Bazaar. While exploring, make sure to visit the Khumjung Monastery built by Sir Edmund Hillary for over 1900 people living in the village.

Today you will be spending your whole day at Namche Bazaar to recharge and acclimatize yourself at the high altitude. As you ascend to higher altitude, the air gets thinner and so is the oxygen in the air. Hence, acclimatization is necessary as your body needs to adjust to the new climate to prevent altitude sickness.

This day you will hike to Hotel Everest View (3880 m) for the sneak peek of Mt. Everest along with other mountains. Then you will be going to the Sherpa Museum and Enjoy the rest of time shopping for last minute items, and visiting cafes and bakeries.

After the early morning breakfast at Namche Bazaar, you will be advancing to Dole. Since the journey starts from early in the morning, you will be able to see the views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku and other mountains. After descending Khumjung, you will see the junction that separates the route of Gokyo and the usual EBC trail.

You will also start noticing the mountain vegetation as there will be no trees. You will stop at Mongla for Lunch. The sidewalk is rocky with many uphill, downhill and flat. During the season, you will also see Rhododendron, the national flower of Nepal decorating the way making it more beautiful. You will come across a lot of Yak Kharkas reaching Phortse Thanga eventually to Dole.

After breakfast, we will leave Dole to reach Machermo. You can see Yak grazing on the way and a beautiful view of Mt. Thamserku and Mt. Cho Oyu. The way today is mostly uphill and requires about 5 to 6 hours of hiking. Since, the route does not follow the traditional trail. The trail is mostly less crowded and you can enjoy the view by yourself. You will know that you’ve reached Machermo, a small settlement village as you will find the fifth tallest mountain Mt. Cho Oyu (8188 m) ahead.

As soon as you wake up for your hike to Gokyo, you will find the best mountain view of Mt. Cho Oyu along with other mountains right in front of your eyes. After Breakfast, we will follow the ascending trails on the bank of the river, which directly flows from Cho Oyu. The paths are steep, rocky and narrow. You can see the final moraine of Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal on the way.

Soon enough we will reach the access point of the first Lake of Gokyo. There are five total lakes in Gokyo and the smallest one is the first one namely Langponga Tsho. The second one is called Taujung Tsho and the third one is called Dudh Pokhari. Dudh Pokhari is the main lake and also known as Gokyo Cho and the Gokyo village is a short walk from the third one. Gokyo Village is also one of the highest settlements in Nepal.

Gokyo is a small and beautiful village residing near the lake. Today is the second acclimatization day as we will spend our day at Gokyo visiting Gokyo Ri and other remaining lakes of Gokyo. Early in the morning, you will hike to Gokyo Ri (5360 m) for the sunrise view and the world class view of the 4 of the highest mountains of the world, i.e. Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu and Mt. Cho Oyu along with other mountains.

After the early morning hike, you return back to Gokyo for Lunch and carry on your day to the remaining Gokyo Lakes. The fourth one is called Thonak Tsho and the fifth one is called Ngozumpa Tsho. The Gokyo Lakes are so captivating and beautiful to drain away your tiredness and fatigue. In the remaining time, you can also visit the bakery situated at the highest altitude; Gokyo Bakery.

After your acclimatization day at Gokyo, you leave today for Thagnak. The route has plenty of ups and downs but you will not be gaining any altitude. You will be passing the longest Glacier Lake, Ngozumpa Glacier and reside at the foot of Cho La Pass i.e. Thagnak. Thangnak village sits beside the Ngozumpa Glacier and at the foot of Cho La Pass so that trekkers find it easy to cross the Pass next day.

After spending the night at Thagnak, you will have your early morning breakfast at Thangnak and move to complete one of the hardest and longest days of the entire trek. Today you will be crossing Cho La Pass that is at the altitude of 5368 m above the sea level. The way to Cho La Pass is like an unhindered local trail that is truly uphill, rocky and steep.

At the top of Cho La pass, you will get the magnificent view of ChoLa Lake and Mt. Cholatse along with other mountains. Descending might get a bit harder than ascending as you have to walk in the frozen ice way and might require crampons. This might be the hardest day of the entire trek and also the most rewarding one. You will also see Lobuche Base Camp on the way. After crossing Cho La Pass, you will reach Dzongla and call it a day.

Today you will leave Dzongla behind and descend following the moraine and Cho La Lake. On the way, you can see the memorial statues of the climber that has passed away. After the constant trudge for 5 to 6 hours, you will arrive at Lobuche and call it the day.

After your early morning breakfast at Lobuche, you will hike towards Gorakshep along the Khumbu Glacier. It takes around 2 -3 hours to reach Gorakshep. You will have your lunch and will visit the much-anticipated Everest Base Camp. The day will be full of excitement on a challenging trail leading to the base of the world’s tallest mighty Everest.

After lunch, you will leave your backpack and hike to reach at the final destination of this entire journey. The way towards EBC is rugged, narrow uphill so you got to be careful. After 3 to 4 hours of hike, you will be reaching at the foot of the world’s highest mountain i.e. Mt. Everest at the altitude of 5,364 m above the sea level. You will feel a sense of achievement while you reach. We recommend you to click as many pictures as you want. After all, the only thing that remains is the memories and the best way is to capture your memories. After exploration, and taking pictures you will return back to Gorakshep. Overnight Stay at Gorakshep.

You will be waking up quite early this day to enjoy the golden dawn rising from the south face of Mt. Everest and the panoramic view of other white mountains like Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori and many more. The climb is challenging and equally rewarding and incomparable to anything you’ve ever seen till day. After the spectacular view, you will return back to Gorakshep for Lunch and head down towards Pheriche. You will have our hearty meal celebrating the success and call it a night.

After breakfast, you will leave the mountains and descend back to the Sherpa Capital. You will be descending by the classical route so the route will be quite new. There are some uphill on the way but you will be bidding farewell to the mountains. After 7 to 8 hours, you will be reaching Namche Bazaar during the afternoon and have free time for resting or you can go around buying souvenirs as well.

This is your last day walking on the trekking trails. After the heartily breakfast you will return back to the point where it all started. You will gain a sense of relaxation and achievement after reaching Lukla.

After the early morning breakfast, you will return to Kathmandu with the best scenic flight of mountains.
