Overview of Nepal Mardi Himal Trek

The journey begins and ends at the picturesque city of Pokhara, ascends through the charming villages to Mardi Himal Base Camp where you can get the irresistible view of Mardi Himal (5,587 m/ 18,330 ft), Annapurna I (8,091 m/ 26,545 ft), Annapurna South (7,219 m/ 23,684 ft), Machhapuchhre (6,997 m/ 22,956 ft), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m/ 26,794 ft), Gangapurna Himal (7,454 m/ 24,455 ft) and other snowcapped peaks. This 6-day jaunt will take you from the subtropical vegetation of Pokhara to the alpine meadows of Mardi Himal. 

The Mardi Himal Trekking in Nepal starts from the drive to Dhampus Phedi that takes about 1 or 2 hours from Pokhara. You will be following the standard trekking path with the view of the green landscape, high hills and village community house before reaching Deurali. Next day, you will continue your ramble to Forest Camp. You will saunter by the rhododendron and oak forest. The way to Forest Camp consists of a wide variety of flora and fauna. As you arrive on Forest Camp, you will get the marvelous views of Mt. Machhapuchhre and Mardi Himal. As you hike further towards high camp, you will start noticing placid highlands, changing landscapes and challenging trails. Following day, you will hike to the highest point of the trek at Mardi Base Camp (4,500 m) offering the breathtaking view of the Himalayan vistas. 

You will then descend back to Low camp, then to the Jhinu Daada/ Landruk as you prefer. On the sixth day, you will return back to the beautiful city Pokhara. You will be having the early morning breakfast from the hotel and start your drive to Dhampus Phedi. It takes around one to two hours to reach there from Pokhara. You will start your trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp after some break at the Phedi. The trail takes you through the lush green forest of rhododendron, along the gradual uphill, farmlands, forest and scattered villages. You will be greeted by the panoramic view of Annapurna peaks as you ascend, which will make the walk even more refreshing. 

Walking along the trails, you will reach Pothana, after a short while the trail will lead you to Deurali. Deurali is a small but charming village of Annapurna Region at an altitude of 2,100 m/ 6,889 ft above the sea level. You will get to see the excellent view of Annapurna South, Fishtail and Mardi Himal from the Village. Overnight at Deurali.

Today’s journey is mostly through a very quiet, dense forest. After you have your morning breakfast from the teahouse at Deurali, you will continue on the off-beaten trail unhindered by modernity towards Forest Camp. You will take a short ascent until the signboard appears, then take a right turn to Forest Camp.  There is some steep uphill and downhill on the way, but the views will be spectacular to make you forget the hardship. In season, the colorful rhododendron forest covers most of the jungle, giving a brilliant picture-taking view.  Enjoy the real beauty of Mother Nature and stay overnight at the Forest camp.

Today, after breakfast, you will start your trek from the Forest camp to High camp via Low camp. Today’s walk will be a bit exhausting as there are many steep uphill sections, rewarding with the breathtaking view. It takes around 2 hours to reach low camp from Forest Camp.  As you start to hike up, the tree line starts getting thinner, but closer and has a bigger view of Mardi Himal and Mt. Fishtail starts opening up, pleasing your eyes. You will get the best view of Mt. Fishtail from Low camp. 

Hiking up further, you will be further greeted with Annapurna South, Himchuli Himal and other mountains as well. Occasionally you might even see Pheasant (Daphne- National bird of Nepal). After walking for some additional hours on the narrow ridgeline, you will reach High Camp offering the best view of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Mardi Himal. Enjoy the sea of snowy peaks from High camp and stay overnight.

Today marks the highlight of your entire trek. You will be reaching the highest point of Mardi Himal Base Camp today. After the morning breakfast at the teahouse, you will start your hike to Base Camp or the viewpoint as per your preference, you will be starting the day early to get the best view from the base camp. 

After hiking along the narrow sidewalk and pastures for about 2 hours, you will go to Mardi Himal Base Camp to enjoy the early sunrise with a hot tea/coffee. From the base camp, you can see the best view of Mardi Himal (5,587m/18,330 ft), Annapurna I (8,091m/26,545 ft), Annapurna south (7,219m/23,684 ft), Hiunchuli (6,441m/21,131 ft), Baraha Shikhar (Mt. Fang) (7,647m/ 25,088 ft), Tent Peak (5,695m/18,684 ft), Singhachuli (6,501m/21,328 ft), Machapuchhre (6,993m/ 22,942 ft) and many others. Sunrise shining right through the Himalayas and the glistening reflection through the ice peaks shall be the highlight of this entire trek.

You will enjoy some time clicking pictures and videos then descend to low camp to call it a night after the long rewarding day.
 

After the morning breakfast, you will start descending back down to Landruk through the same trail through Forest Camp. It takes around 7 hours to descend back to Landruk. You can either choose to go for Jhinu Daada or Landruk as per your wish. Jhinu Daada is famous for its hot spring. If you do not wish to walk the upcoming day, you can choose to stay at Landruk.

Enjoy your early morning breakfast and your last day at the village area. You will return to the vibrant beautiful city Pokhara and take a good rest at the hotel there.

Spring (March-May) – Best Season for Mardi Himal Trek

The temperature ranges from 5°C to 15°C at higher elevations. The weather is clear with blooming rhododendrons and moderate temperatures. The best thing to trek during March is the vibrant forests, comfortable weather, excellent visibility, with moderate crowds not as packed as autumn.

Mardi Himal Trek in April: Perfect for Stunning Views

The temperature ranges from 8°C to 18°C. The weather is warm and stable with stunning sunrise and the sunset views. This is the best month for photography and ideal for all trekkers. We advise you to book in advance as the teahouses can be crowded.

Mardi Himal Trek in May: Warm but Slightly Hazy at Times

The temperature ranges from 10°C to 20°C. The days are warmer and there are occasional crowds in the afternoon. The trekking conditions are comfortable and the trails are less crowded than in April. There may be clouds in the afternoon obstructing the mountain views later in the day.

The temperature ranges from 12°C to 22°C. The weather has increasing humidity and frequent afternoon rain showers. There are very few trekkers as the trails are muddy with leeches and limited visibility.

The temperature ranges from 12°C to 20°C. There is heavy rainfall leading to slippery trails, dense fog and very poor visibility. Trekking is still possible, but can be very challenging due to landslides in some areas.

The temperature ranges from 12°C to 20°C. There will be frequent rain providing the lush green scenery. Since the rain is gradually decreasing, the views are cloudy and crowds are very few.
