Detailed Itinerary
Kathmandu to KathmanduExpand all

The early morning flight from Kathmandu will take you to the most dangerous flight in the world. It is said so because the Tenzing Hillary Airport (Lukla Airport) has one of the shortest runways which is 527m long and only 30 m wide.  The total duration of the flight lasts about 30 – 35 minutes. You will reach Lukla in the morning and start your rendezvous to Everest Base Camp.

Lukla is a small village town that embarks the start of your trek for the Everest Base Camp. Your voyage today continues to Phakding where you can officially commemorate your journey after the Pasang Lhamu Gate. Heading towards Phakding, you can find beautiful scenery, herds and head start on learning the local Sherpa Culture on the way. You can find many rock carvings around your way to EBC.

It is said that the rocks are made sacred through the Tibetan writings and are considered as the memorials of a family member when they are passed away. Since the hike is short and straightforward, you can complete your brisk trek in 3 to 4 hours before landing at Phakding. Overnight Stay at Phakding.

Today’s day will start after a heartily breakfast at Phakding before heading towards the Sherpa Capital, Namche Bazaar.  The byway takes you around 5 to 6 hours of walk where you can find the lush green mountain vegetation on the way and sneak peek of some mountains along the way.
The trail to Namche Bazaar is mostly uphill with the beautiful Dudh Koshi River flowing aside. On the way to Namche, you require the permit of Sagarmatha National Park. Our guide will help you on the permit and entrance. On a clear day, you can also see the Thamserku Mountain rising above and a glimpse of Mt. Everest. There are many suspension bridges on the way, among which you need to cross the famous landmarks of the trail, Hillary Bridge, with a height of 135 m and length of 60 meters.

After the hike, you will reach Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) aka “The Gateway to Mt. Everest” at early evening. After you have settled down at your tea house, you can also visit the Khumjung monastery (3790 m) from where you can enjoy the view of the beautiful Namche bazaar. The Khumjung Monastery was built by Sir Edmund Hillary for over 1900 people living in that village.

This day you will be having your stop at Namche Bazaar as a process of acclimatization. While going on a trek to the highest altitude your body needs to be adapted to the new climate or new conditions to prevent altitude sickness or AMS.  So, one more day is spent on Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and allowing your body to adjust to the thinner air before pushing towards higher altitudes.

Today you will be early morning sunrise hiking to the Hotel Everest View (3880 m) for the best view of Everest (8848.86 m), Ama Dablam (6812 m), Lhotse (8516 m), Nuptse (7861 m) and other mountains on a clear day. Afterwards, you will be visiting the Sherpa Culture Museum which showcases the ancient traditions and lifestyle of Khumbu Region. Then, you can enjoy your free time shopping, buying souvenirs and visiting cafes & bakeries.

After the early morning breakfast at Namche Bazaar, you will be advancing to Tengboche through the stone paved way with the gorgeous mountain side by side.  Today’s trek is mostly uphill but you will get to see the mountains like Tawache (6495 m), Thamserku (6608 m), Nuptse (7861 m), Ama Dablam (6170 m), Lhotse (8516 m) and Everest (8848.86 m).

After 5 to 6 hours of hiking, you will reach Tengboche which is also known for having the Tengboche Monastery, the oldest and the largest monastery in the Khumbu region which has also been listed by UNESCO themselves. You can observe the sensational incantation of Buddhist prayer/mantra morning and evening.

Today’s trek follows through the alpine forest, crossing the Imja River with the sight of Ama Dablam (6,812 m/ 22,350 ft) also known as the Matterhorn of Himalayas. Ama Dablam is one of the most beautiful summits that make the trail more captivating. With such a captivating way, you will finally reach Dingboche and take a rest.

Upon reaching higher altitude, it is crucial to take rest to prevent AMS as previously stated. So, today you will either be hiking towards the Nangkartshang Peak View point (5,083 m/ 16,675 ft) for the iconic view of Himalayan giants like Ama Dablam, Makalu, and the Imja Valley. If you are willing to rest to prepare for the next day, you are free to do so as well.

Today, you will be leaving for Lobuche, a high-altitude village surrounded by mountains. You will be gaining 600 m in elevation and it is the last hike before reaching the Base Camp. The trail is mostly uphill and there is a sudden change in weather. As we gain elevation, the wind gets chilly and the air gets drier so there are high chances of getting altitude sickness at this mountainous terrain.

On a clear day, you can get chance to see Himalayan giants like Everest (Sagarmatha) at 8,848 meters Nuptse at 8,596 meters, Lhotse at 8,516 meters, Ama Dablam at 6,812 meters, Pumori “Daughter of Everest" at 7,161 meters, Thamserku at 6,712 meters, and Kantega at 6,782 meters.
On the way, you will encounter the Sherpa memorial erected in the memory of climbers who lost their lives while pursuing their Himalayan dreams. After 4 to 5 hours of slow and steady walk, you will reach the small village settlement on the lap of the Himalayas, Lobuche and call it a day.

Today, you will start your early morning hike to Gorakshep to complete our long- awaited Everest Base Camp Journey. The day will be full of excitement on a challenging trail leading to the base of the world’s tallest mighty Everest.

After breakfast, you will start hiking along the Khumbu Glacier. Khumbu Glacier is the highest glacier in the world situated 4,900 m above sea level. It is also the largest glacier in Nepal and the final step to reach the Everest Base Camp. Today’s hike would probably be the best hike and the greatest trek among the last 8 days.

You will have our lunch at Gorakshep, take some rest, leave your bag pack and let’s move on towards the foot of the highest mountain challenging your physical strength and testament. The way towards EBC is mostly uphill and rugged terrain so you have to be careful and slow through the way. After 4 to 5 hours of hike from Gorakshep, you will get the breathtaking views, panoramic scenes of the mountains at the final point of this desired trek i.e. Everest Base Camp at the height of 5,364 m/ 17,598 ft. At this very height and this majestic view, anyone can feel their inner spirituality being awakened. After exploration, and taking pictures, you will return back to Gorakshep and call it a night.

You will be waking up early this day as you will be moving to Kalapathhar to enjoy the sunrise view in between the largest mountains. Additionally, you will get to have the proper view of the South Face of the mighty Mt. Everest along with other mountains like Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori and many more. After the spectacular view, you will return back to Gorakshep for Lunch and head down towards Lobuche. You will have our hearty meal celebrating the success of reaching EBC and preparing to cross the Kongma La Pass every morning tomorrow then call it a night.

After the breakfast at Lobuche, Today, you will be traversing through the highest pass from the infamous three passes of Everest i.e. Kongma la Pass that is at an altitude of 5,535 m. Like the other passes, there is a steep uphill canyon to ascend Kong ma la pass. After the hard ascent, you can enjoy the beautiful mountain view of Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Lhotse Star, Mt. Makalu, Mt Baruntse and Mt. Amadablam.

After spending some time at the top and clicking pictures, we descend to the Chhukung Valley where you will stay at a tea house overnight.

After the early morning breakfast at Chhukung, you will leave the village and trudge towards Island Peak Base Camp. As you move forward, you will climb uphill to the south then trek via the main valley. Crampons and axes are required to reach the base camp as we need to cross the glacial moraines from the Lhotse glacier. The trail is hard but you can see the surreal waterfalls and glacial on the way along with the breathtaking view of Imja Khola Glacier. After the short uphill, you will reach Island Peak Base Camp from where you can observe the glory of Island Peak.

After a short while, your guide will help to set up the tents and guide you about the summit you will be doing tomorrow. There is no other option for accommodation hence; you will be taking a rest at your tent preparing for the hard ascent to Imja Tse/Island Peak.

Today you will be waking up really early as today is one of the challenging days of the entire trek. You will summit the Island Peak today standing at the height of 6189 m/ 20,305 ft above the sea level. As the guide will prior inform you, you will be leaving for the summit in the early morning because the weather condition keeps on changing and is uncertain at the higher altitude. Additionally, the weather is too windy during the afternoon so you have to start early to beat the weather. You will start by climbing steep uphill, crossing boulders and glaciers. After 2 to 3 hours of climbing, you will reach the Island Peak summit. You can get the panoramic view of Baruntse, Ama Dablam, Makalu and many more. The sense of achievement at the top of the mountain with the view is out of this world. After some photographs, you will descend down.

You can get the sunrise view from the mountains while descending. You will wrap the tents and pack your baggage and leave for Chhukung. Overnight at Chhukung.

Today, you will be descending to Tengboche. You will trek through the Imja Valley to Dingboche, famous for its stone wall, mani prayers and pastures. Continuing your journey, you will reach Pangboche village then further down to Tengboche where you will stay overnight at Tengboche.

After the morning breakfast at Tengboche, you will descend back to Namche Bazaar through the pine forest, rhododendron and other flora and fauna. You will find Namche Bazaar bustling and vibrant after being on such a long trek. You can take a rest or go around to buy souvenirs and visit cafes and bakeries.

Prepare to have a final look of the Himalayan Mountains as you bid final farewell to them as well as the Khumbu Valley and return back to the final point where all this adventure had begun, Lukla. After the arduous trek, you will descend slowly and reach back to Lukla and prepare yourself for returning back to Kathmandu. Overnight stay at Lukla.

After the early morning breakfast, you will return to Kathmandu with the best scenic flight of mountains. What is altitude sickness and what can you do to avoid it?

While trekking, we ascend from the lower altitude to higher altitude. The starting elevation of this trek is 1310 m and the maximum elevation is up to 6189 m above the sea level. While ascending towards such a high altitude in a short period of time our body needs to adjust to that height. That’s why acclimatization is necessary while trekking to EBC. Otherwise, you can get Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) if it worsens you can result in High altitude cerebral edema (HACE). Altitude sickness is caused by ascending too rapidly, which doesn't allow the body enough time to adjust to reduced oxygen and changes in air pressure.

  • You cannot totally avoid altitude sickness but following are some of the ways to minimize it.
  • You should not rush. You must ascend slowly and steadily so that your body can slowly adjust to the high altitude.
  • You should hike as high as you can during the acclimatization rest and return to the lower altitude for sleep. Acclimatization not only helps to prevent altitude sickness but also aids the body in recovering exhausted muscles and adjusting to the shifting oxygen levels.
  • You shall intake sugar (chocolates that have nuts, chocobar, energy bars); protein and drink enough warm water during your hike to avoid altitude sickness.
  • If you still have mild symptoms of altitude sickness you can try medications like acetazolamide or nifedipine to prevent altitude sickness and treat it.
