Gatlang is a picturesque village that offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage and traditional lifestyle of the Tamang Community. The houses are built in traditional Tamang architectural style, and are renowned for their traditional Syabru dance. The village offers a panoramic view of the Langtang mountain range, including Langtang Lirung (7,227 meters), Ganesh Himal (7,422 meters), and other snow-capped peaks. The sacred Parvati Kunda is located nearby, a tranquil lake believed to have religious significance and healing properties. Overnight at Gatlang.

The trek to Somdang from Gatlang passes through the Khumbu Daanda (3,739 m) and takes you through the most captivating trekking trails. The ramble today takes you along the dense forest of pine, fir and rhododendron trees, appreciating the beautiful backdrop of the Annapurna and Langtang ranges. Today, you will rest overnight at a tented camp, enjoying the starlit sky and the tranquility of the Himalayas at Somdang.
Somdang is a picturesque village boasting stunning landscapes and a 200-meter long Chukarma waterfall. The area around Somdang is believed to have abundant herbal plants. Overnight at Somdang.

After the early morning breakfast at Somdang, enjoying the views, you will ascend towards Lari. The path traverses through the lush rhododendron forests, continues along the shrubs, trees and open meadows. You will also have a clear view of majestic Himalayas, like Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and other mountains of the Annapurna Ranges. The physical ascent can get tiring, but the eye-pleasing views make it more of an aesthetically amusing journey. After 7 to 8 years of an amazing hike, you will reach the beautiful settlement of Lari.

As you ascend to higher altitude, the oxygen in the air gets thinner increasing the chances of altitude sickness during your trek. Today, you will have your pre-climbing training at Lari. Your climbing guide will assist you with basic refreshment training and guide you to use the mountaineering equipment like crampons, ice axes etc.

You can also take your day to do short hikes around Lari or just take a day to rest at the beautiful settlement of Lari. This acclimatization day is necessary for your physical health and can also help in the cultural insight of the local villagers regarding their lifestyle, traditions and culture.

Trudging towards Paldor Base Camp, you will cross through the manganese mine along the steep ridgeway towards Paldor Peaks glaciers After walking for 3 to 4 hours, you will reach the Paldor Base Camp and stay overnight at a tent surrounded by the snows at the lap of the Himalayas.

After breakfast, you will ascend along the moraine of the glaciers and cross a glacial lake named Fang Lake towards Paldor Peak High Camp. The campsite will be set just at the east of Fang Lake, enjoying the panoramic view of Himalayan vistas, snow and the glaciers. Remaining time, you will practice climbing with your guide for the Paldor Peak Summit tomorrow.

Today marks the D-Day of your entire trek. You will be summiting the Paldor Peak this very day. You will wake up very early in the morning, and follow the route leading towards the Paldor Glacier. The trail is steep with loose rocks and hard snow. You must not rush and remember that the way is not technical but physically straining. Continuing on the guided trail, you will reach the top of the Paldor Peak.

Standing on the top of the Paldor Peak, makes you feel out of this world, brimming with a sense of achievement and pride. This feeling gets amplified with the view you get from Paldor Peak Summit. You will get the best view of Ganesh Himal I, II, and III, Langtang Lirung (7,227m), Manaslu Peak (8,516m) as well as the Tibetan mountain including Shishapangma (8,013m) and other peaks from the top.

After celebrating your achievement with some photos, you will descend back following the same route to Paldor Peak Base Camp. Overnight at the tent celebrating the success in Paldor Base Camp.

There is no such guarantee that you can get quite a favorable weather on the planned day for the summit. So, this day is used as a contingency in case you are unable to summit the Paldor Peak due to bad weather conditions or some other reasons.

If the weather becomes exceptionally unfavorable, you would wisely have to postpone the program of summiting the peak. Sometimes anyone in the group may get some problems in acclimatizing well enough to make the ascent; so, this day can be used in that condition too. If the trip goes smoothly, this spare day is not required.

Taking the achievement of climbing, you will today descend slowly back to Somdang. The way to descent is also steep so you need to be cautious while returning following the same route. After 4 to 5 hours of trek, you will reach Somdang. Overnight camping at the beautiful settlement of Somdang Village.

After the heartful breakfast at Somdang, you will backtrack your route to Gatlang following the same rhododendron and pine forest to Khumpu Dada. The trail winds down the Khumpu Dada, taking towards the destination, Gatlnag Village. Enjoy staying overnight at the teahouse of Gatlang Village.

After having breakfast, you will descend the trail along the Bhotekoshi River near Chilime village. You will enjoy the Chilime hydropower dam and the trail ascends until reaching Tatopani. Tatopani is the natural hot spring that is said to cure skin-related diseases and heal body pains, and fatigue. You will take a refreshment bath at the hot spring. Overnight at Tatopani.

Today, you will hike to Nagthali Ghyang, which is a viewpoint providing the best view of the snowcapped mountains of the surrounding area. Enjoy the view of the surrounding Himalayan peaks from the vantage point and descend back to Tatopani. Overnight at Tatopani.

Today marks the last day on the trekking trail, reminiscing about the achievement you have gained during the last 2 weeks. Following the same route, you will descend back to Syabrubesi. After 5 to 6 hours of hike, you will reach Syabrubesi, where you will stay overnight at a tea house.

After having the early morning breakfast at the teahouse, you will drive back to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi. Key Challenges during the Paldor Peak Trekking and Climbing

Altitude & Oxygen Levels

Steep Ascents and glacier crossings

The snow slopes incline 45°to 55°. Snow and ice ridges make the climb physically demanding. So, the Paldor Peak Climb requires crampons, ropes, and ice axes for the climber's safety.

Long Trekking Hours

The Paldor Peak Trek usually takes an average of 6 – 8 hours of walking per day in an off-the-beaten trail. So, the long trekking hours can be physically challenging and hard. As there is no road access, you can hire a porter to carry your backpacks.

Weather conditions

The weather conditions can get extreme during the Paldor Peak Expedition. The sudden snowfall and high winds can make climbing challenging. The temperatures can drop below freezing at high camp and the summit.

Who can climb Paldor Peak?

Those trekkers with high-altitude trekking experience (4,000m+) are eligible to climb Paldor Peak. The climbers looking to gain mountaineering experience before attempting 6,000m+ peaks are also eligible to climb Paldor Peak. Physically fit individuals with endurance training can also climb Paldor Peak.

Preparation for Paldor Peak Climbing in Nepal

The preparation for Paldor Peak Summit requires a combination of physical endurance, basic technical mountaineering skills and mental resilience. The maximum altitude of the Paldor Peak is at 5,896 m above the sea level. So, the climbers should start training at least 3 – 4 months in advance with a focus on cardiovascular fitness, strength building and adapting to higher altitude. Running, cycling, and stair climbing helps in improving lung capacity and stamina, while squats, lunges, and core exercises enhance balance and endurance for steep ascents. You can also practice carrying a backpack weighing up to 10 kg during hikes, which can help simulate real trekking conditions.

Although Paldor Peak is a non-technical climb, it involves glacier crossings, steep snow slopes, and ridge climbing, making it essential to learn crampon use, ice axe techniques, rope handling, and fixed rope climbing. Walk Mountain provides a pre-climbing training session at Lari (4,868m) to familiarize climbers with essential techniques.

Mental preparation is equally crucial, as climbers will face basic accommodations, harsh weather, and long trekking hours. Acclimatization days at Lari and Base Camp are included in the itinerary to reduce the risk of altitude sickness. Proper hydration and gradual ascent are necessary for a safe and successful summit.

Accommodation During the Paldor Peak Climbing Trek

Accommodation during the Paldor Peak Climb varies from teahouses, lodges, and tented camps, depending on the altitude and the availability. The trekkers stay in a basic teahouse up to Gatlang, if available at Somdang as well. The teahouses provide basic facilities like twin room, simple bedding, shared squat toilets with limited facilities. Electricity and Wi-Fi are available in some teahouses, but charge you extra for the use.
As climbers ascend towards higher altitude like Paldor Peak Base Camp, Paldor Peak High Camp, tented camping becomes necessary with sleeping bags (-20°C rated), foam mattresses, and dining tents being provided by WalkMountain. Meals are freshly cooked by the expedition team, ensuring energy-rich food for climbers.

Meals During the Paldor Peak Expedition Trek

Meals during the Paldor Peak trek follow a high-calorie, protein-rich diet to sustain the physical demands of climbing. Climbers will be provided three meals a day, i.e. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Breakfast options include porridge, eggs, Tibetan bread, and tea, while lunch and dinner feature Dal Bhat (rice and lentils), pasta, soups, noodles, and potatoes.

Climbers are encouraged to carry high-energy snacks such as protein bars, nuts, and chocolate for quick energy boosts. Drinking water is available at teahouses, but at higher altitudes, it is advised to purify or boil water to prevent illness. At high altitudes, hydration is critical, so climbers should drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily to prevent altitude sickness.
